History of Baker Motorsport

Baker Motorsport was formed in 1999 with our web page going live that same year.

After many years of not participating in any forms of motor sport, Ray returned to as a volunteer for the 1999 Rally of Canberra. This was Ray's first taste of Rallying after much experience of circuit racing. In the case of being a volunteer at ROC Ray ended up joining the Brindabella Motor Sports Club. Ray is still a member to this day.

Image The year 2000 was the year of officiating for Ray with quite a few local events and even a trip down to Batemans Bay for the Bay Stages event. Again officiated at ROC but this time as a Post Chief.

2001 brought the competing bug, had learnt quite a bit about the sport and met plenty of people. Sam Austin asked me to codrive for him in his RX7. We came close to winning ACT Novice that year. Also codrove for Jenny Austin in the Rallye des Femmes with the unfortunate case of a rear wheel coming off on River Rd. Also bought my rally car the mighty Daihatsu Charade Gtti off Doug Wright. Sam and I managed to roll the car at the Bay Stages so we had a major reshell to complete. That basically made it the end of the year for me.

2002 Had a bit of a go at ACT Novice, winning the round at Bathurst but blew my engine to pieces so had to source another engine, took 6 months before we were out there again. Was stage safety officer for ROC Tidbinbilla Stage. Had a few other codrives and plenty of fun.

2003 a quiet year, did a lot of officiating and was Stage Commander for ROC. 14 events for the year. Joined the committee of BMSC as editor of the club magazine. Was awarded the Year to Forget trophy for the shocking amount of DNS's we had for the year

2004 codriving for Brett Walther, had a big go at winning Clubman, ended up 2nd to Spac. I missed Bega due to my brothers wedding. Competed at ROC finishing 10th in the National event in my Charade.

2005 Codrove for Peter Jerie at Bathurst, coming home with 4 trophies, did the ARC round at Bathurst with Gerald Schofield, winning the Clubman event. 18 rallies for the year, the big one being Rally NZ, my first WRC with Nick Marshall in the Super 1600 Peugeot. Nick and I hold the world record for the first crew to DNF 3 times in the on World Rally. Won BMSC Codriver of the year for 2005

2006 24 events including 4 rounds of the ARC. Gerald and I 3rd Privateer in the ARC. Peter and I had quite a few good events but we had a big crash at Taree in the Mirage. Had a run in the VRC with Derek Reynolds. Also competed with Graeme Shaw in the Tarmac events, winning our class at Mt Buller. This year also saw Ray as President of the BMSC. Won Sportsperson of the year for BMSC

Image 2007 ROC in the Charade, rolled the car on stage 2, the team at Carco rebuilt the car on Saturday afternoon and we were back out there for Sunday, winning our class and leading the Australian Championship for our class.

2007 also brought the Australian P3 Championship for the team after wrapping up the title at Rally of Melbourne. Backed up again with BMSC Sportsperson of the year.

2008 brings a return to circuit racing with Ray taking over the team management of Tanner Autosport, running a Proton Satria in the AASA Production Car Championship. Also will be competing in selected ARC events and the ACT Clubman series. Will be codriving for Tristan Kent in his debut year as a driver. Also will be continuing on the BMSC committee.
